Tour dates
Edinburgh 2004 Tour Diary
8 May 2004
Sorry, It's been a while since the last entry but to be honest, I'd forgotten that I had a tour diary.
So... Right... God knows when the last entry was. But I'm in Edinburgh now for the mighty Fringe festival. About to start at The Pod, which is a crackin' new venue. Just MC'd the press launch and are doing my first show there tomorrow night. Doing shows each night from August 6-29 at 8.45pm. As I say, not sure when the last entry in the tour diary was but I haven't been on tour for a while, so you must forgive me. I finished The Extra (film) just before I left Australia. Had a week of pick-ups. The film comes out in April 2005.
After I finish Edinburgh, I've got a little mini-tour around Europe... France, Italy, England and Ireland. Check the web site for details. In fact, I just realised that it's not on the web site. But I'm in Paris on September 6 & 7, Milan the 8th & 9th, Birmingham September 10 & 11 and the Glee Club (in Birmingham, that is). The after that, onto Ireland to do Dublin (Olympia Theatre - September 16) as part of the comedy festival and Derry's Millennium Forum on September 18.
Happy birthday to Julie Richardson, our T-Shirt seller and token tour chick. Hello to Andrew Robinson... I know he reads these too. And yes, we'll keep you posted.
Sorry about the lack of entries in the tour diary, but this is just like any other diary... It starts out with the best of intentions, and then just falls by the wayside.
From what I've seen so far, I'll give you a little Edinburgh Festival form guide. Barbara Nice and Tina C get a big "Yes". Also recommend Craig Hill and Des Clarke. Anvil Springsteen got an audience of journalists laughing at 9.45 in the morning, which is no mean feat, let me tell you. That's all for now. My daughter's just woken up and we might have a crack at walking up Arthur's Seat.

Dear Tour Diary,
I don't know when the last entry was. Let's be honest... I haven't been on tour for a while. I've been making a film. It's going well. I used to think so, in fact I hope so. It's been a lot of work.. but also a lot of fun. We're off on tour to the UK as soon as we finish filming. By the way, the reason I'm doing this tour diary entry even though I'm not on tour, is because I really want to make the crowds scenes in this film as impressive as possible, which means we need more people!!
If any body wants to be an extra in the film, please go HERE and register online. We need people for the following nights in the city (Melbourne): April 13, 14, 19, 20, 21 & 22. On each night I will talk everyone through what is going on, so if you are interested in the process of filmmaking I'll see you there!

Day number whatever. Who knows at Edinburgh. It's August 19, but I can honestly say I've already seen THE BEST show at the Edinburgh Fringe... Not once, but 6 times. La Clique, a bohemian sideshow burlesque, starring The Caesar Twins, Pierre & Pablo, David O'Mer, Camille O'Sullivan, Yulia Pikhtina, Flee, Ursula Martinez & Amy Saunders. It's on each night (11pm-1am) in the Famous Spiegeltent, the BEST venue at the Fringe. None of those words in that last sentence ever came up when I was growing up in Ireland.... except for "David". Edinburgh is an absolute must for any would-be performer. In the 11 years I've been coming here, it's doubled in size. I have been to a lot of festivals around the world and this is easily the best.
Being plagued by wasps here, and the weather hasn't exactly been fantastic, but these are relatively small drawbacks. Tonight, I've got the Best of Late 'n' Live... or it could be the worst of late 'n' live, depending on how drunk the audience are.... and boy do they get drunk and late 'n' live!! Performing with Colin Hay and Adam Hill. That's it for the minute... got stuff to do!!

Sorry it's been so long since my last diary entry. I'm trying to make is as authentic as a real diary, which is just as spasmodic.
Just driving into Yanco. No St Vincent De Paul in Yanco. Probably just as well... we would have stopped in to get something and it would have been another 3 months before my next diary entry. Had two shows in Wagga Wagga last night.... one for each Wagga. And we're on our way to Griffith.
Had a great day in Wagga Wagga on the Murrumbidgee River. Went for a swim on the so-called Wagga beach. Ha! That's a joke! Wagga residents should have a moan to the local council to get the beach back to it's former glory! Had a free mud pack off the river bed. Came in handy when approached by five drunks in a boat who didn't recognise me as my face was covered in mud... I felt a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator when the predator came close.
A big thank you to everyone at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney where we just did four nights. The Enmore is coming up on it's 100th year. Easily one of the best venues in Australia. The best gig of this tour so far would have to have been the final Enmore show on Saturday night. Another fun gig was in Castlemaine at the Theatre Royal, the longest continuously running cinema in Australia. Will have to come back and do a premiere of my new film there. The show at Geelong was also a crackin' gig.
Quite few things have happened since Edinburgh. Finishing work on my new feature film, The Extra which is due for release on April 18 2005, so I am told. The best
Looking forward to the four shows at The Famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne at the end of the run in December. Also looking forward to Byron Bay, although Schoolies week can be a pain in the ass.... hopefully, we'll miss the tail end of that. Can get very messy in Byron Bay during Schoolies week.
It's been very hot over the last couple of days. 37 degrees yesterday but now raining again. Sorry, I'm struggling with stuff for the diary at the moment as the weather in Wagga is certainly nothing to be writing home about.
After Griffith, we're off to Orange, the apple capital of Australia. I sense some sort of joke there from the local council.... along the same lines as Virgin Blue painting their planes red. Approaching Griffith now. Seeing lots of apples, oranges and other fruit. Haven't seen any grass yet, but apparently it's well known for it.
Matt King is the support act on this leg of the tour. Just bought himself some board-shorts at St Vincent De Paul in Leeton. $2.50 but he tipped her $0.50... still a bargain, especially considering he paid $80 for another pair in Wagga this morning.
More diary entries soon (he laughs)!
